Jasprit Bumrah finished as the ‘Man of the Tournament’ in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. He took 15 wickets in the tournament and finished as the third highest wicket-taker.

He was the best bowler in the competition and made a huge impact with the ball every time he came out to bowl. In the final against South Africa, he took the early wicket of Reeza Hendricks. He then returned to dismiss Marco Jansen in the 18th over of the South African innings.

Former PCB chief Ramiz Raja, who watched Bumrah from close range in the T20 World Cup, has hailed him as a legend in all three formats.

“In my opinion, Jasprit Bumrah is a legend in all three formats. There is no one greater than him who has played in all three formats. (Toh aap dekh rahe hai, ek ladka kaha se utha hai, usme confidence nahi tha, uska awkward bowling hain) As you can see, where this kid came from, he lacked confidence, he had a weird bowling action. He was not in form but he came back and now he has made India win the World Cup,” Ramiz Raja said on his YouTube channel.

Bumrah’s exceptional performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup has earned him a lot of praise, with his remarkable achievement of taking 15 wickets in eight matches at an economy rate of 4.17. His ability to perform under pressure was his biggest asset during the World Cup.

The former PCB chairman further praised his superb recovery from injury. He missed the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup but returned for the 2023 ODI World Cup. He has also rubbished retirement rumours.

T20I retirement is a long way off: Jasprit Bumrah

“My retirement is a long way off. I’m just starting out. I hope it’s a long way off now,” Bumrah said.

Meanwhile, Bumrah’s statement on his retirement came after the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja from T20I cricket. Rohit retired as the only player to win the T20 World Cup as both a player and captain. Kohli finally had a T20 World Cup to show for his efforts.

There are more reports that Bumrah, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be rested for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. The trio are targeting a comeback in the Test series against Bangladesh.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka will consist of three ODIs and three T20Is from July 27 to August 27. Bangladesh will then visit India for two Tests and three ODIs from September 19 to October 12. After Bangladesh, India will host the Kiwis from October 16 to November 5 for three Tests. They will then play a series against South Africa away from home with four T20Is between November 8 and 15 before a five-match Test series in Australia from November 22.

Bumrah will be key for India from the series against Bangladesh onwards.
