Alyssa Healy takes down Pitch invader

UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy stole the spotlight with her antics during the First women’s division (WPL) vs. Mumbai Indians Women. The match between the two teams took place on Wednesday (February 29) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

UP Warrioz showed a sensational performance with bat and ball in the game and ensured that Mumbai Indians suffered their first defeat of the season. While Kiran Navgire and Grace Harris garnered plenty of applause for their performances, captain Alyssa Healy upstaged them with her antics.

Just before the last ball of Anjali Sarvani’s over, which was also the last ball of Mumbai Indians’ innings, the incident unfolded. As the new batter attempted to bat to face the ball, a man in the stands ran onto the field and play stopped for a time.

Alyssa Healy, however, attempted to shake off the field invader in her path. The UP Warrioz captain was tackling the invader to the ground before officials escorted him off the field. It caught the attention of many because it was something that no one expected.

After a brutal tackle, the Australian media correlated her with late all-rounder Andrew Symonds and Australian women’s football icon Sam Kerr. The duo also used to deal similarly with pitch invaders during their playing days.

Alyssa Healy played a decent role with the bat for her team. In the 172-run chase, she ensured that her team got off to a valiant start. The captain played a decent hand of 33 runs off 29 balls. He also scored 5 fours in his innings and added 94 runs by opening the stand with Kiran Navgire.

Kiran and Grace Harris were the main architects of the victory. While the first batsman scored 57 runs off 31 balls, Harris remained unbeaten with 38 runs off 17 balls. Deepti Sharma (27*) in the end played a vital hand as UP Warriors completed a comfortable 7-wicket win.

“We are delighted to get on the board”: Alyssa Healy on win over Mumbai Indian Women

Alyssa Healy spoke about her team’s performance after a 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians. She said she was delighted after recording her first win of the season. She spoke about how Kiran Navgire convinced her to open the innings. The UP captain also said that she is proud of the way her team played.

“I am delighted to be on the board, to beat a quality team like Mumbai. The girls bounced back after a disappointing night. Apparently Kiran went to the boss last night and asked if she could open, she wants to open. [on whether Navgire would have opened if not for Vrinda’s injury] Probably not, but things happen for a reason. To be fair, they gave us 25 more, we gave away too many on the field and let it slip away.

“But the hitters did the job, the pitchers kept us in the game. It’s one dimensional but they all have different styles, we have bench seams if needed. [on the celebrations tonight] With cake: this is how we do it in India. Sophie Ecclestone is very excited about the cake. Proud of the girls, they came back strong, it’s good to be on the board, but there’s still a lot of work to do.” she concluded.
