Arshdeep Singh played a key role in India’s triumph in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The left-handed spinner lived up to expectations and has firmly established himself as one of India’s key players in the T20I format after the World Cup exploits.

With Mohammed Shami injured, there were fears that India’s pace attack could falter at the T20 World Cup. However, Arshdeep Singh shined with the ball and forged a formidable partnership with pacer Jasprit Bumrah, as India claimed the T20 World Cup.

Arshdeep Singh finished the 2024 T20 World Cup as the Indian player with the most wickets. Only Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi took more wickets than him in the competition. In 8 matches, Arshdeep took 17 wickets with best figures of 4 for 9.

He also impressed with the ball in the final against South Africa. In 4 overs, the fast bowler took 2 wickets and conceded just 20 runs. He first dismissed South African captain Aiden Markram in the powerplay to put India in the driving seat before picking up the crucial wicket of Quinton de Kock. He also bowled a brilliant 19th over, conceding just 4 runs as South Africa needed 20 runs in the last two overs.

After his heroic performance at the T20 World Cup, he finally landed in his hometown Mohali on Saturday (July 6) and was given a hero’s welcome. Fans congratulated him and garlanded him in honour of his impressive performance at the World Cup.

According to Gaurav Gupta of the Times of India, Arshdeep’s IPL franchise Punjab Kings also celebrated the player’s return at the Chandigarh International Airport. Arshdeep has been playing for the franchise in the IPL since 2019.
