Watch: Babar Azam makes England goalkeeper Jamie Smith leave "oh wow" with its late cut

Pakistan national cricket team batsman Babar Azam could not score much in the first innings of the first test against the England national cricket team. The match between the two teams is underway at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan and started on Monday (October 7).

The Pakistan national cricket team won the toss and opted to bat first. On what looked like a great wicket, they didn’t get off to a great start with the bat. Young opener Saim Ayub fell for 3 runs but after that, it was all the fault of the hosts who batted tremendously well with the bat.

Captain Shan Masood scored 151 runs and opener Abdullah Shafique also played an innings of 105 runs as the Pakistan National Cricket Team put pressure on the opponents. The duo added 253 runs for the second wicket and set a great platform for the team. Babar Azam was also expected to set the stage on fire.

Babar, who showed fantastic touch in the 2024 Champions Cup, came out to bat at number 4 and from the way he started, he looked in great form. The right-hander played some sharp shots in his innings and with the way he controlled the shot, it looked like he would be ready for a big knock.

Babar, while batting, made many stand up and applaud him. Not only fans but even England national cricket team batsman Jamie Smith were in awe of the batsman. The lanky English player was impressed by the way the right-hander played the final cut.

On the third ball of the 67th over, Jack Leach bowled a flat delivery with no width. Babar Azam sat back, waited and clipped it off the off stump to send the ball towards the boundary. This caused England’s wicketkeeper Jamie Smith to say “Oh wow” behind the stumps, amazed at the way the batsman was playing.

Babar, after that shot, continued batting positively. But he couldn’t continue with the start he had. The right-hander was caught lbw by Chris Woakes hitting the stumps on Day 1 of the ongoing game.

Babar Azam finished with an innings of 30 runs off 71 balls. He also cleared 5 boundaries during his knock. With his wicket, the Pakistan national cricket team lost its fourth wicket by 324 runs and continued the batsman’s horrible run in Test cricket.

Feeling happy because performing for the team is a next level feeling – Abdullah Shafique

Abdullah Shafique, who scored a fantastic century, spoke about his innings and said that he is happy with his performance. He said he was focusing on the process. He spoke about batting with Shan Masood and said it is a big learning moment for him. Speaking after day 1, he explained:

“Feeling happy because performing for the team is a next-level feeling. It happens (his low scores in three consecutive tests). It’s not an easy game. I was concentrating on the process.

“When a senior batsman like Shan Masood plays with you, it is a learning moment for me too. It is difficult here in Multan. We have done a 4-5 day camp here. Cramps are part of the game, they happen. We are fine now “
