Ellyse Perry has starred for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the current Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Australian all-rounder has played a key role in RCB’s progress towards the final.

After a disappointing campaign in the inaugural WPL season last year, the Bengaluru-based team has defied the odds to reach the finals of WPL 2024. A huge credit for the notable turnaround in their fortunes should go to Ellyse Perry. He starred with both bat and ball in the last two games against the reigning champions, Mumbai Indians.

His performances not only helped RCB qualify for the final but also got MI eliminated from the tournament. In RCB’s last league match, Ellyse Perry took 6 wickets for just 15 runs and scored an unbeaten 40 to help her team qualify for the playoffs. In the Eliminator, he impressed again, scoring 66 runs and taking 1 wicket, as RCB beat MI by five runs to book their place in the final.

With Ellyse Perry grabbing all the attention, several social media users have re-shared an old video of one of her interviews from 2020. In the interview, the host asked the Australian star about her reaction when former Indian batsman Murali Vijay revealed to her that he would like to go to dinner with her.

“In an interview, Murali Vijay was asked, if after the lockdown there were two people he would like to go to dinner with, would they be them? Said Shikhar Dhawan, one of his teammates, and you. What would you respond to that? the presenter said.

In response, Ellyse Perry gave a humorous response: “I hope he pays if that’s the case. It is very kind of you. “I feel very flattered.”

Ellyse Perry excited about the final:

Speaking after the win over MI in the WPL qualifiers, a delighted and excited Ellyse Perry said she can’t wait to play in the final. She also praised her teammates for the way they have performed this season after last year’s disappointing campaign, when they only managed two wins in eight games.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to be in the final. Defending a total as low as that is fantastic. The girls kept their cool and the spinners’ performance was quite impressive in the end. You have to take advantage of the opportunity when it presents itself. It was good for me the last two games, my path has fallen off,” Ellyse Perry said.

“The way we stayed calm against such a good team is exceptional. The way the girls bonded after last season and we really enjoyed each other’s company on and off the field. For the most part we hung in there, the girls kept contributing, I guess the old saying about running the boards in a big game is true, and so it was tonight. “I can’t wait (for the final),” she added.

RCB will face Delhi Capitals in the final of WPL 2024 on Sunday (March 17).
