Things are not going well at all Hardik Pandya in the current Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The India all-rounder started a new journey in the IPL this season after replacing Rohit Sharma as captain of the Mumbai Indians.
In reality, things have not developed as he would have liked. Mumbai Indians began their campaign in the 17th edition of the IPL with two losses in a row. In their first game of the season, they suffered a 6-run defeat against Hardik Pandya’s former team Gujarat Titans. While chasing 169, they were at 129 for 3 before suffering an inexplicable collapse and finishing at 162 for 9.
In their second game, they conceded a record total of 277/3 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. While they did well with the bat and scored 246/5, they ended up on the losing side. Talking about Hardik Pandya’s performance, he has scored a modest 34 runs and has managed to get only 1 wicket so far.
Hardik Pandya’s reaction to ‘Rohit’ chants:
Hardik Pandya is not only struggling to perform well as Mumbai captain but has also been constantly attacked by fans. Mumbai Indians were heavily criticized for unceremoniously sacking Rohit and naming the all-rounder as his replacement. Fans expressed their discontent on social media and are now targeting Hardik Pandya during matches.
He was booed and jeered by fans in both Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. The fans not only booed him but also taunted him with chants of ‘Rohit, Rohit’. And while Hardik Pandya hasn’t really reacted to the boos and jeers on the field, a viral video shows him losing his cool.
The incident took place while he was heading to the locker room. At the beginning of the video, he was seen talking to Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani before heading to the locker room. As Pandya walked up the stairs, fans attacked him with chants of ‘Rohit, Rohit’ and he expressed his frustration by hitting the railing.
