yes butler, England’s white-ball captain, has decided to officially change his name to Josh Buttler after years of being called by the wrong name. Jos Buttler’s decision comes after suffering incidents of incorrect naming, prompting him to “resolve the issue once and for all.”

The veteran cricketer has represented England in 57 Tests, 181 ODIs and 114 T20Is. The wicketkeeper-batsman will captain the defending champions in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the US and the Caribbean islands in June this year.

Jos Buttler is currently representing Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The opening batsman’s performance has been disappointing in the T20 tournament. He scored only 11 runs at a strike rate of 88 in the team’s first two matches.

Buttler’s impactful leadership played a crucial role in England’s victory in the T20 World Cup in Australia at the end of 2022. England anticipate that Buttler’s successful spell with the Royals will provide him with optimal preparation to lead the team in defending the qualification.

I’m officially Josh Buttler – Jos Buttler

In a video of the England cricket team on X, Buttler told how he is often referred to as ‘Josh’ rather than ‘Jos’, from his MBE to his mother’s birthday card. Consequently, to fix the problem permanently, Buttler officially changed his name to Josh.

“Hello. I’m England’s white ball captain, Jos Buttler. But all my life I’ve been called the wrong name. From people on the street to my mum on my birthday card. Dear Josh, you’re getting old. Happy birthday! Lots of love, Mum. Even my MBE was wrong. So after 13 years representing my country and two World Cup victories, it’s time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problems once and for all , I’m officially Josh Butter.”

The video shared by England and Buttler on Monday could serve as an April Fool’s Day joke, leading fans to approach it with a sense of skepticism.
