Karachi Kings, Islamabad United officials fight


Karachi Kings and Islamabad United were involved in a very intense clash against each other in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 on Wednesday (February 29). The match between the two teams took place at the National Stadium in Karachi.

While the competition between bat and ball was high, the game also witnessed some heated moments. The referees of both teams, Haider Azhar and Rehan Ulhaq, clashed verbally over the ball change during the match that took place in Karachi.

The incident occurred at the start of Karachi Kings’ 14th over. The referees asked for the ball to be changed but Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan was not happy with the state of the changed ball. The management of both teams also got involved and complete chaos ensued near the boundary rope.

The Islamabad United team management was seen speaking to the match officials before Mike Hesson also intervened. Things got even more serious when Haider Azhar and Rehan Ulhaq got into a verbal dispute.

Coming to the match between Karachi Kings and Islamabad United, United won the game by 7 wickets. When asked to bat first, Karachi posted 165 runs on the board. Captain Shan Masood added 27 runs on the board. Leus du Plooy added 24 runs which kept the team on track despite losing early wickets.

Kieron Pollard then ensured in the end that Karachi Kings finished the innings on a high. He scored 48 runs off just 28 balls. Irfan Khan (27*) supported him well and his team finished with 165 runs. For Islamabad United, Agha Salman was the pick of the players with his figures of 2/17.

In the chase, Colin Munro (82) and Alex Hales (47) played superbly well early on. They added 108 runs for the opening partnership before Agha Salman (25*) and Shadab Khan (10*) helped the team win the game by a margin of 7 wickets.

Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan expressed his joy after his team won the match against Karachi Kings. He praised the team’s effort after facing a defeat in the previous match. He admitted that they were not up to par with fielding and needed to put energy on the field. In statements to the stations, he explained:

“When you win, sometimes your mistakes are covered up. Beautiful victory, nice how the team recovered after the defeat in the last game. We were not up to par in our fielding. We have to put more energy on the field. As a bowling alley, we were very good. Sometimes you are going to run, but if we play better it is a different game,” he concluded.

Islamabad United are 5th in the points table with 2 wins under their belt in 5 games so far. They have also lost three games and now hope to continue the winning streak. The next time they will be seen in action will be when they take on Quetta Gladiators on March 2.
