Sunrisers Eastern Cape owner Kavya Maran expressed her delight with the team defending their title in the second edition of the SA20 league. Kavya Maran’s celebration after Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Durban Super Giants (DSG) in the summit clash went viral on social media.
The Aiden Markram-led side cruised to an 89-run victory over the Durban Supergiants at The Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday 10 February. This victory marks their second consecutive victory in the SA20, having defeated the Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural 2023 final.

Sunrisers team owner Kavya Maran was visibly jubilant at the SA20 2024 final, celebrating her team’s back-to-back championship victory. In a viral video, Maran praised the team’s outstanding performance with both bat and ball throughout the season.
“It’s a second drink. Back to back, two in a row. So happy, so happy. Best team performance with bat and ball. They’ve been dominating this whole season, and to finally do it, I mean, it’s amazing to win it (the title) back to back. Very happy for the boys; They all put on a great show. We faced a very strong team today, but happy to have won at the end of the day,” Maran said.

Kavya Maran, daughter of Sun Network owner Kalanithi Maran, is co-owner of the Sunrisers franchises. She passionately supports her team and was first seen on television during the 2018 IPL season, cheering for SRH against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Durban supergiants in a one-sided encounter
Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Sunrisers Eastern Cape suffered an early setback with the dismissal of Dawid Malan in the second over. However, Jordan Hermann and Tom Abell built a solid partnership, providing a solid foundation for the team in the final match.
Tristan Stubbs (56*) scored a quick fifty, while captain Aiden Markram (42*) contributed a crucial cameo, guiding the team past the 200-run milestone in the first innings. Durban Super Giants captain Keshav Maharaj secured two wickets for 33 runs in his four-over spell.
The Keshav Maharaj-led team experienced a collapse during the power play while chasing. They lost three wickets for just seven runs in 3.4 overs. DSG wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was dismissed for just three runs off Daniel Worrall’s seven balls in the third over.
Ottneil Baartman dismissed the in-form Heinrich Klaasen for a golden duck in the 11th innings of the Durban Super Giants. Wiaan Mulder was the top scorer with 38 runs off 22 deliveries. Despite his best efforts, the Durban Super Giants were bowled out for just 115 runs in 17 overs.
Aiden Markram’s team only managed one point in their first two games. However, they only lost one more game to finish at the top of the league. The Sunrisers continued their winning streak with a dominant performance in the first Qualifier and secured a place in the final.
