Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling coach Lasith Malinga impressed with his exceptional performance in the nets ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match. A video showing Lasith Malinga’s fast bowling prowess gained traction on various social media platforms.

The Mumbai-based franchise had a disappointing start to the ongoing season. The five-time IPL champions lost their first three matches under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. However, they managed to get their first win of the season against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

With this victory, Mumbai Indians became the first team to achieve 150 wins in T20 cricket. Despite their slow start, the Hardik Pandya-led team has shown resilience and determination, laying the foundation for a possible turnaround in the remainder of the IPL 2024 season.

During a practice session, Lasith Malinga showed off his bowling skills, with most of the bowlers concentrating on hitting the stumps. The Mumbai franchise gave fans a glimpse of the practice sessions by sharing a video on their official social media platform, X (previously known as Twitter).

In a knockout session, Mumbai Indians pacers including Arjun Tendulkar struggled to hit the stumps, prompting Lasith Malinga to take action. The former MI pace bowler then showed the precision and accuracy of him successfully hitting the stumps.

“Kuch nahin bada yaar, aaj bhi sab kuch waisa hi hai,” the caption wrote.

After his successful stint as a player with the Mumbai Indians, Lasith Malinga served as the bowling coach of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a few seasons. The MI team later brought him back in as their bowling coach after parting ways with Shane Bond after IPL 2023.

The 40-year-old, who played for MI from 2008 to 2020, claimed 170 wickets in 122 matches, making him the seventh leading wicket-taker in the IPL. He claimed four IPL titles with MI and recorded a T20 Champions League triumph in 2011, marking a notable career in the league before retiring in 2021.

After the win against Delhi Capitals, Hardik Pandya emphasized the importance of trust and teamwork, underlining the positive atmosphere within the team.

“It was very hard work. We had to clear our heads and make sure we believed. We will make tactical changes here and there, but this will be our 12 and establishing our team now is important. There is a lot of love and care going around in the locker room” .

“Believing and supporting each other is the attitude there. Everyone believed we needed just one win. Today was an amazing start, it was always great to score 70-something in 6 overs. The way everyone contributed when the opportunity arose was good. to see,” Pandya said.

The Mumbai team will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 11. The two teams currently occupy the eighth and ninth positions, respectively, in the 10-team points table.
