Mark Boucher and Kieron Pollard

Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher and batting coach Kieron Pollard were involved in a furious exchange with the umpires during the recently concluded game against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The exchange occurred due to a misunderstanding over the timeout. For those unaware of timeout rules, both teams get a strategic timeout each inning. As per the rule, the bowling team must use their timeout between overs six and eight, while the batting team must use theirs between overs 11 and 16.

Coming to the incident, it took place at the end of the 15th. MI wanted their timeout right after the conclusion of the 15th. However, the referee did not give the timeout signal probably due to lack of communication.

Surprised by the umpire’s decision, both Mark Boucher and Kieron Pollard as well as batsman Tim David entered the field to express their discontent. David was also seen calling a timeout before an official asked him and the MI coaches to leave the field of play. David, Boucher and Pollard all left the field but were seen exchanging words with the referee.

Talking about the game, CSK beat MI by 20 runs to register their fourth win in the ongoing IPL 2024. Asked to bat first, CSK amassed a massive total of 206 for 4 in 20 overs thanks to half-centuries from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube.

While Gaikwad scored 69 runs, Dube remained unbeaten on 66. MS Dhoni also played a crucial role in the final. He faced just four balls and scored 20 runs with the help of three sixes in a row. Those runs made the difference in the end as MI fell short by exactly 20 runs.

Chasing 207, MI were 130 for 2 in the 14th over before their innings went derailed after losing four wickets in quick time. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten century but it was not enough for MI to register their third win of the season.
