Watch: Rohit Sharma looks desperate, security guard celebrates as new video of Suryakumar Yadav’s catch to dismiss David Miller goes viral

Suryakumar Yadav’s catch to dismiss David Miller in the final of the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has become a major talking point.

It was a catch that virtually sealed the World Cup for India. Hardik Pandya was given the responsibility of defending 16 runs in the last over with David Miller on strike. Miller was batting on 21 runs with the help of a six and a four and his wicket was crucial for India to win the game.

On the first ball, Pandya bowled a low, full delivery and Miller smashed it into the ground. The ball looked destined to cross the boundary for a six before Suryakumar Yadav came running in from the left and caught the ball before tossing it into the air as the momentum carried it past the boundary ropes.

He regained his momentum and then returned to the field before completing a brilliant juggling catch under pressure. Pandya continued to defend the runs in the last five balls as India won the game by 7 runs to win the T20 World Cup for the second time and for the first time since 2007.

Many still believe that Suryakumar Yadav’s catch was not fair and that his boot had touched the edge of the net. Recently, former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock silenced all the noise surrounding the catch by saying that it was perfectly legitimate.

“The catch was good. The cushion had moved, but that’s part of the game. It had nothing to do with Surya. He didn’t step on the cushion. It was a brilliant play,” Pollock said in an interview.

New video of Suryakumar Yadav’s capture:

Suryakumar Yadav’s monumental catch continues to divide opinions in the cricket fraternity, and a new video of the catch from a different angle has gone viral. The video shows Rohit Sharma looking absolutely desperate as Miller takes the shot before Suryakumar completed the catch that sparked wild celebrations. The video also shows local security guards celebrating the catch.

“Rohit lost all hope when he saw that and literally went down on his knees. Surya took the game away from him,” wrote a fan in reaction to the video.

Another wrote: “Even the security personnel supported India. That is heartwarming.”
