For Rohit Sharma, India’s World Cup triumph remains a dream that has not ended. He became the first Indian captain to break the trophy spell for India since 2013.

It was India’s first ICC title since 2013 and first T20 World Cup in 17 years since their inaugural T20 World Cup win in 2007. Since then, India have failed to clear the final hurdle. However, they have managed to make it to the qualifiers of almost all ICC events.

Under MS Dhoni, India lost the 2014 T20 World Cup final. Under Virat Kohli, India first lost the 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan and then the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Then, under Rohit Sharma, India lost the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England and the WTC and ODI World Cup final against Australia.

The Indian captain was determined to win the T20 World Cup and when he finally did, he failed to express his emotions. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20I cricket after India’s win in the Caribbean.

On Thursday, after being stranded for four days since the T20 World Cup victory in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, the Indian World Cup contingent finally landed in New Delhi on Thursday morning after nearly 16 hours of non-stop flight from Barbados to New Delhi. The World Cup-winning team first met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then left for Mumbai to participate in a roadshow in Mumbai.

However, after reaching Mumbai, the Indian players reached Marine Drive late due to the huge crowd that had already gathered there to welcome the team. They finally reached Marine Drive around 7 pm and are currently heading to the Wankhede Stadium where the team will be felicitated by the BCCI.

Meanwhile, pictures of Rohit Sharma worshipping the T20 World Cup title have gone viral on social media. In a viral video, Rohit can be seen cleaning the trophy and worshipping it in the process. All the Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, posed for photographs with the World Cup trophy and expressed how they felt after winning the title.

Rohit Sharma, in the post-match press conference after winning the final, spoke about how desperately he wanted to win this title after losing two ICC finals in 12 months before playing the T20 World Cup final.

“I wanted this so badly. It’s so hard to put into words because that moment… I don’t want to say what I was thinking and what was going on. [on] “In my mind, but it was a very emotional moment for me personally. I wish I could capture that moment myself, but not really, you can’t do that, but I’ll always remember it. Yeah, those are the moments that you wait for and then you don’t plan for these things, they just happen because you’re so desperate for certain things in life and I was so desperate for this in my life. I’m so happy that we finally crossed the line this time.” said Rohit.

The T20 World Cup victory also marked the end of Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach. He saw India lose the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, the 2023 WTC World Cup final, and the 2023 ODI World Cup final, eventually ending with a T20 World Cup title under his belt.
