After an impressive outing with the bat in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), Chennai Super Kings star Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently busy playing in the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL).
The right-handed batsman leads Punerii Bappa in the six-team competition. Puneri Bappa has had a poor start to the campaign in the competition. They suffered a seven-run loss against Eagle Nashik Titans in their first game of the tournament. Chasing 196 runs, Puneri Bappa finished their innings at 188/9.
Batting at number six, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 38 runs off 21 balls in that game. In the second game, Puneri Bappa beat Kolhapur Tuskers by 22 runs to break the mark in MPL 2024. Ruturaj Gaikwad led his team from the front, scoring an unbeaten 61 off 35 balls to help his team score 143/7. In response, the Kolhapur-based team finished with 121/6.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was also named Player of the Match for his efforts. In the third game, Puneri Bappa suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Raigad Royals. Chasing 200 runs, the Pune-based team ended their innings with 129/8. Gaikwad was once again his team’s top scorer, scoring 36 runs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s strange dismissal:
On Friday (June 7), Puneri Bappa faced Ratnagiri Jets in their fourth game of MPL 2024. Batting first, Puneri Bappa were bowled out for 144 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad also took the lead in this game but he couldn’t take advantage of it as he had to retire after being run out in a strange manner.
On the first ball of the 12th over, Gaikwad was unfortunately run out while trying to complete the second run. He had managed to reach the crease in time but could not drag his bat into the crease. His bat got stuck in the ground just outside the crease and he missed. And when the bouncer removed the bails, Gaikwad’s feet were in the air.
