Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was furious with India’s Mohammed Siraj for his actions during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Gabba, Brisbane. Gavaskar lashed out at Siraj after a mix-up with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Day 4 of the Test.
Siraj and Jadeja were involved in a mix-up in India’s 62nd innings. Ravindra Jadeja took a single on the fourth ball of the over with the expectation that Mohammed Siraj would defend the last two balls of the series to return the strike to Jadeja.
While Mohammed Siraj was expected to defend the fifth ball, he instead took a single off the fifth ball. He left his area again after an Australian overthrow despite being sent off by Jadeja.
Both somehow completed the single but Jadeja was clearly not happy with Mohammed Siraj as the duo were involved in a mid-tone conversation during the run.

Sunil Gavaskar destroys Mohammed Siraj
After seeing the entire incident, Sunil Gavaskar came down heavily on Mohammed Siraj and even questioned his ‘cricket consciousness’. He also mentioned that Siraj should think about his team first instead of taking risky singles.
“Even now, in the middle of the crease, they are having a conversation. Siraj is having a conversation. What is happening here? There is one ball left in the over. All you have to do is stay. There is no run,” Gavaskar said in the comment.
“It seems to be in a very informal way. Look at that. There has to be some awareness about cricket. You are a No. 9 batsman. You have to think about the team. You can’t think about taking risky singles,” he added.

The incident costs Inida dearly
The entire incident proved costly for India as Jadeja failed to get the strike in the next over. Since Mohammed Siraj had to face Mitchell Starc in the next round, it was always going to be a difficult task.
Starc got the wicket of Siraj on the last ball of the over when he had caught it behind the wickets towards Alex Carey. He was dismissed for just 1 off 11 balls. It was the loss of the eighth wicket for India.
Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep avoid sequel
India also lost Ravindra Jadeja a few overs later as they needed 33 more runs to avoid the follow-on. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep ensured that the Men in Blue avoided the sequel in dramatic fashion.
Both Bumrah and Akash Deep are still at the crease and their partnership is unbeaten on 39 runs at the moment. Akash hit a gully for four to prevent the follow-up, prompting Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir to have a memorable reaction.
Mohammed Siraj was earlier promoted to the No. 9 spot ahead of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep. He didn’t have a great time with the ball earlier as he finished with 2-97 in 23.2 overs.
