Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have gone through a rough patch in the World Cup in the West Indies and the United States. However, the Indian cricket team finished top of the table in Group A. The Men in Blue defeated Afghanistan in their first Super 8 match to boost their chances of reaching the semi-finals.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on the Bangladesh team in their next match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Saturday, June 22. The former World Cup champions hope to continue their winning streak. A win in the next match will take India closer to the semi-finals.

In a video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Instagram, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were seen honing their batting skills during an optional training session in Antigua. Both players showed off a variety of shots as they faced takedown specialists to prepare well for their upcoming clash.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the innings together only once before the T20 World Cup 2024. They were paired to balance the presence of big batsmen in the middle order. However, this strategy has not been successful so far for the Indian cricket team, despite high expectations from both senior players.

Virat came to the World Cup after an excellent season in IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The former Indian captain recorded scores of 1, 4, 0 and 24 in his four matches. Rohit also underperformed, scoring just 76 runs in four innings at an average of 19.00 and a strike rate of 111.76.

Rohit Sharma is an experienced batsman – Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar expressed his confidence in Rohit Sharma’s ability to perform well in the upcoming matches. Gavaskar noted that suggestions can be made on how to adjust the shots based on the angle of the bowler, but added that Rohit knows best how to adapt his game.

“He is an experienced batsman. He knows what he has to do. You can’t really tell Rohit Sharma to change his game because of the bowler’s angle,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Coming back to the India vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup clash, the Men in Blue would hope to extend their dominance over the Tigers in the T20I format as in 13 matches between the teams, they have won on 12 occasions.
