Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been in the talks ever since Team India won the ICC T20 World 2024. The opening batsman finally got his hands on the World Cup when his team defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament to lift their second title.

Rohit Sharma, who has been the backbone of the team for the past decade, has been giving his best for the past few years to win the trophy. But the batsman, despite giving his best, failed to do so. In the last few tournaments, he was sensational, but the team succumbed to the pressure in crucial matches and lost.

But in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Indian team was completely different. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue played a fearless style of cricket and it was the captain who led from the front and showed the way for his team in the tournament, batting aggressively at the top.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Team India remained unbeaten as they won all the matches and became the first team to win the title without losing. They were on top of their game in almost all the matches as almost every player stepped up at crucial moments.

India’s best performance came in the knockout stages of the tournament, where they first thrashed England in the semi-final and then were sensational in the final against South Africa. The knockout stages have caused India a lot of problems in the past few tournaments, but this time it was a different Indian team.

When India lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup trophy, one of the things that caught the attention of many was Rohit Sharma’s celebration when he went to collect the trophy. The India captain recreated Lionel Messi’s iconic moment at the 2022 FIFA World Cup when he walked up to the podium to collect the trophy.

But WWE legend Ric Flair immediately dismissed the idea that it was Lionel Messi’s celebration. He said it was his own celebration, which the Indian captain emulated. Taking to his Twitter account, the WWE Hall of Famer tweeted: “@ImRo45 Taking a page from my playbook! WOOOO!”

Three days after his claim, WWE Superstar Ric Flair posted another tweet and recreated Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup trophy collection celebration to prove that Sharma did indeed emulate his celebration. Taking to his Twitter account, he posted a video of himself and wrote in the caption, “Global sensation! WOOOO!”

Rohit Sharma led the way with the bat in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He was the top scorer for his team as he scored 257 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 156.70. His highest score came in the game against Australia in the Super 8 stage where he scored 92 runs.

After winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is. He ended his career as the all-time leading run-scorer with 4231 runs. The captain finished with five hundreds, the most by a batsman in T20I cricket. He also hit 32 fifties and had a run strike rate of 140.
