Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious in game 23 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Punjab Kings on Tuesday (April 9). They defeated their opponents by two runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were asked to bat first in Chandigarh. Travis Head (21) and Abhishek Sharma (16) once again got them off to a good start with their aggressive batting. But after that, things changed drastically for the visitors as they faced a terrible collapse.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were reduced to 100/5 with all the big guns behind them. It was then that Nitish Kumar Reddy (64) got his team out of trouble with his brilliant half-century. Abdul Samad (25) supported him as the duo scored 50 runs.

Thanks to their efforts, Sunrisers Hyderabad recorded a total of 182 on board. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of four for 29. Apart from him, Sam Curran and Harshal Patel also picked two wickets each, while Rabada picked one.

Punjab Kings got off to a terrible start to their innings as they lost three wickets for just 20 runs with Shikhar Dhawan (14), Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh (6) back in the hut. Sam Curran (29) and Sikander Raza (28) played useful knocks for the team and kept their team in the hunt but their wickets put pressure on PBKS.

Shashank Singh (46*) and Ashutosh Sharma (33*) did their best and revived the hopes of the fans. With 29 runs needed in the last over, they gave their best and brought the team closer but missed the target by just two runs.
