Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill expressed his joy after his team won the thriller against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He issued a warning to all other teams, saying that his team should never be ruled out until the last ball of the match is bowled.
Gujarat Titans stunned Rajasthan Royals in their stronghold at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The Shubman Gill-led team emerged victorious by a margin of 3 wickets and ensured to register their third win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Gujarat Titans snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as they looked down for most of the game. With the ball, they did not have a great outing as they conceded 196 runs, having bowled out the opponent’s two openers for just 42 runs at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
In the chase, Shubman Gill kept his team in the hunt but did not get support from the top and middle order. The first batsman scored 72 runs but his wicket saw the Gujarat Titans reel at 133/5. It looked like they would lose the match easily but Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan had other plans.
Rahul Tewatia (22) and Rashid Khan (24*) in the end exuded class with the bat and made sure to take their team home. With 15 runs needed in the last over, they played sensationally well and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
Shubman Gill said that after coming out, his team was aiming for 45 runs in 3 overs and they backed themselves to achieve it. He expressed his disappointment at not taking his team home and credited Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan for his heroics in the end. During the post-match presentation, he explained:
“We were aiming for 45 in 3 overs and it is very achievable and that was the mentality at that time. Mathematically, both batsmen needed to hit 22 off 9 balls and that is how you think and if a batsman goes crazy, that will do. I would have “I was delighted to finish the game, but I am very happy with Rahul and Rashid bhai for finishing the job for us.”

Rashid Khan won the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance in the game. With the ball, he returned with figures of 1/18 and then played 24 unbeaten innings with the bat to take his team home.
Shubman Gill praised Rashid Khan for his performance and stated that every team wants competitors like Rashid on their side. He elaborated:
“Winning the last ball is always a great feeling. He (Rashid Khan) is someone you always want in your team, he is a great competitor.” When he plays GT, don’t think like that, huh. “
