On Saturday, September 7, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi spoke about the future of Babar Azam and Shan Masood as captains of the Pakistan National Cricket Team.

Both white-ball captain Babar Azam and red-ball captain Shan Masood have come under fire following the downfall of Pakistan cricket. The Men In Green have put in a terrible performance across all formats, leading to the team coming under heavy criticism.

Babar Azam, as the white-ball captain, has been constantly under fire, and his poor performance with the bat is not helping the cause either. Shan Masood, on the other hand, lost a two-match home Test series against Bangladesh as captain, and this has left PCB officials frustrated.

It is noteworthy that Masood has led Pakistan in 5 Tests and lost all of them while the Babar Azam-led team failed miserably in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and even faced a defeat against the United States of America.

Amid the poor performance of the team and the captains, reports emerged on Friday claiming that Babar and Masood were set to be sacked ahead of Pakistan’s next international assignment. The favourite to take over the Pakistan captaincy is Mohammad Rizwan, who is reportedly being considered to become an all-format captain.

Captaincy decision to be taken after… – Mohsin Naqvi on Babar Azam and Shan Masood’s sacking

On Saturday, Mohsin Naqvi spoke to the media after inspecting the ongoing construction work at the Gaddafi Stadium and said that the decision on the captaincy would be taken after the meeting between the coaches, selectors and PCB officials.

“The decision on the captaincy will be taken after consultation with the coaches, mentors and the selection committee,” Mohsin Naqvi said.

“A workshop is planned for September 22, where everyone will be invited to give their suggestions and decisions will then be made,” he added.

Mohsin Naqvi further revealed that he will meet the selectors today and said that if a wrong decision is taken in Pakistan cricket, everyone will blame him.

“I know that if there is a mistake, it is my fault. If the team does not play well, if there is a mistake in the selection or if the coach loses, it will all be my fault,” he added.

It is noteworthy that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has called for a meeting on September 22, dubbed as the ‘Connection Camp’. Important decisions regarding the future of Pakistan cricket will be taken at the meeting. The meeting will also be attended by personalities such as Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, along with senior players, other coaches and PCB officials.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi also confirmed that reports that one of the Tests between Pakistan and England will be moved out of the country are false and that all matches will be held in the country.

The first Test of England’s tour of Pakistan 2024 will be played from October 7 in Multan while the second Test will be held in Karachi from October 15. Moreover, the third and final Test will be played in Rawalpindi from October 24.
