Will RCB find a new home in IPL 2024 amid Bengaluru water crisis? A colossal update is coming

The IPL 2024 matches at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium will not be affected by the Bangaluru water crisis of late. In total 21 games will be played in the first leg IPL 2024.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium will host three matches in the first leg of the tournament. RCB will play Punjab Kings in the first match at Chinnaswamy, followed by KKR on March 29 and Lucknow Super Giants on March 2.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru is currently under serious threat of a water crisis. However, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is confident of meeting the needs through the in-house sewage treatment plant.

“We are not facing any crisis, at the moment. “We have received information from the state government regarding water usage and we (KSCA officials) are in constant meetings to follow the guidelines.” Shubendu Ghosh, CEO of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, told PTI.

Chinnswamy Stadium to host three RCB matches in first leg of IPL 2024

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had issued a notice prohibiting the use of drinking water for any other purpose, such as gardening or washing vehicles. Meanwhile, the KSCA CEO further said that water from the sewage plant inside the Chinnaswamy stadium should be enough to meet the needs of the first three games.

“We are already using water from the STP plant to irrigate the gardens and the field and other purposes within the stadium. We may need 10,000 to 15,000 liters of water for phosphorus and we are sure it can be generated at the STP plant. We do not need to use groundwater (for any irrigation purposes). Yes, we are taking a closer look at the government’s new policy on water use, but we are confident of complying with all points of the order.” he elaborated.

Meanwhile, RCB officials and people closely associated with the franchise trusted the KSCA and its management of the water shortage.

“We are aware of the situation and are in contact with KSCA officials. But we have another two weeks before the first game here. Therefore, we are confident that the matches will go smoothly. “The site also complies with National Green Tribunal regulations, so a system is already in place to deal with such scenarios.” an official said on condition of anonymity.

RCB plays the first match of the campaign against Chennai Super Kings on March 22. The match will be played in Chennai. Over the years, RCB has had a great rivalry, especially with teams like CSK, KKR and Mumbai Indians. They are yet to win their first IPL title despite playing in the league for the last 16 years. The coaching staff has changed on numerous occasions, but it has not produced any positive response.

Historically, RCB has been a heavy hitting team and this year it is the same. The bowling attack looks to be in great rhythm with Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley to name a few. Karn Sharma is the leggie specialist. They also signed Yash Dayal, who played for the Gujarat Titans last season.
