Rishabh Pant

Former Australian batsman and 2009 IPL winner with Deccan Chargers Adam Gilchrist wants Indian Premier League authorities to fine Capitals of Delhi Captain Rishabh pants.

Gilchrist said this in light of Pant’s argument with the on-field umpire over a wide ball review that was wrong by the umpire, who also had a long conversation with the DC captain. Gilchrist admitted that it was not the right thing to do and that the problem should have been resolved very quickly.

It all unfolded during the fourth over of the first innings of the 26th match between Delhi Capitals and the Lucknow Supergiants at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow. Ishant Sharma was bowling that and had bowled a wide ball to LSG’s number 3 batsman Devdutt Padikkal.

After the umpire signaled it was open, Rishabh Pant called for a review using the ‘T’ sign to challenge the on-field umpire’s decision, but it was later found that Pant was not calling for it.

Immediately after, the referee and Rishabh Pant had a heated argument which stopped the game for at least 3-4 minutes. It also raised a lot of eyebrows about how the referee allows the game to be stopped for a short period.

This intrigued commentators to give their comments and claim that he was completely wrong. However, Pant will be happy enough not to be fined for it and for the fact that DC finally got their second win in IPL 2024.

Adam Gilchrist says referee should have taken control against Rishabh Pant

While speaking to Cricbuzz during the post-match analysis, Adam Gilchrist stated that the on-field umpire should have taken more control in that discussion with Rishabh Pant.

Gilchrist suggested that referees should be able to have better control over their final decisions and that their conversation should not have lasted so long. Lastly, the Australian said that Pant should be fined for extending the talk and stopping the match midway.

“Tonight I saw another example where referees need to take better control of games, and that’s in any format. They just have to do a better job of moving things forward. “There was a dispute over whether Rishabh had reviewed it.

Well, there was a miscommunication during the review call. But they stood there and talked about it for 3 or 4 minutes. I think it’s a very simple conversation.

No matter how much Rishabh or any other player complains, the umpires should just say, “It’s over” and move on quickly. But if he keeps talking, they should fine him.” -Adam Gilchrist said via Cricbuzz.

Rishabh Pant and Jake Fraser-McGurk lead DC to comfortable victory

Meanwhile, after that incident occurred, LSG went on to score 168 as a target thanks to the bowling death of Ayush Badoni, who took 55 off 35.

In reply, DC chased down the total in the 19th over of the match through fantastic hitting from the bats of Prithvi Shaw (32 off 22), debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk (55 off 35) and Rishabh Pant (41 off 24).
