Zaka Ashraf To Be Replaced By Mohsin Naqvi As Next PCB Chairman: Reports

Mohsin Naqvi will replace Zaka Ashraf as the next PCB chairman, PAK Passion reports. Pakistan have been in woeful form in international cricket of late. He was serving as the acting Chief Minister of Punjab province.

Pakistan lost five games in the ICC World Cup 2023. They lost a Test series against Australia followed by a loss in the T20I series against New Zealand. They were trailing 4-0 in the previous game and then managed a consolation win in the fifth T20I.

Shaheen Afridi has had a terrible start to his captaincy career. He lost his first four games and was also very expensive with the ball. Ashraf resigned from his position after Pakistan’s defeat in the fourth T20I.

Pakistan’s recent series of performances in the World Cup Followed by the Test series loss to Australia and another T20I series loss to New Zealand could have influenced his decision. A lot changed during Zaka’s tenure as PCB president, with Babar Azam removed as captain in all formats and also with changes in the administration.

Mohsin Naqvi to replace Zaka Ashraf as next PCB president

The fourth T20I defeat has big repercussions for the Pakistan Cricket Board. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf resigned from his post after Pakistan’s fourth consecutive bowling. The test series defeat against Australia followed this chaotic defeat against the Kiwis which forced Ashraf to step down.

This is Ashraf’s second term as PCB president and his recent tenure is considered one of the worst in the history of Pakistan Cricket. He took charge on July 7, when Pakistan was preparing for the World Cup.

However, the team lost seven matches in the tournament, followed by chaotic performances against Australia and now New Zealand. Many things changed in PCB under Zaka Ashraf.

He first removed Babar Azam as captain in all formats, hoping for better results. The entire administrative system also changed. However, nothing yielded positive results.

Pakistan’s performance in the tournament was reviewed by the PCB and then it decided to change the entire administrative and coaching setup. The PCB also changed: Mohammad Hafeez took over as team manager from Mickey Arthur and former cricketer Wahab Riaz was named the new chief selector of the PCB. Shaheen Afridi is the new T20I skipper and will lead his team for the first time in T20Is.

The whitewashing of the Pakistan Test series was also a speech against Australia. None of the players could withstand the pressure from the Australian players. The batsmen were disappointed and the pitchers did not put much pressure on the opponent either.

The T20I series loss against New Zealand was a glimpse into the team’s inability to adapt to different conditions. Former Australian cricketers criticized the current Pakistan team as the worst team to travel from Asia to Australia. Pakistan have played 39 T20Is against New Zealand, having won 17 matches and Pakistan 21. The Kiwis only had 13 T20I wins against Pakistan before the start of this series.
