Ajinkya Rahane

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes Ajinkya Rahane cannot be called a crisis man for India, despite their blow against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Sanjay Manjrekar stressed that Ajinkya Rahane should continue his form in the second innings of the match.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 runs in India’s first innings at the Oval on Friday June 9. The right-handed batsman helped India past the follow-up score, adding a 109-run partnership with Shardul Thakur for the seventh wicket. The Rohit Sharma led team were bowled out for 296 runs in their first innings.

Has Played Odd Innings – Sanjay Manjrekar

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Ajinkya Rahane used to produce low scores after a good hit in red-ball cricket in the past.

“I don’t think Ajinkya Rahane can be called a crisis hitter. There are other innings ahead, the crisis has to be averted in a way that draws or wins the game. But in this entry, solely because of the kind of odds… he’s done brilliantly,” Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.

“To call him the player in crisis… he has played strange innings, but the old Ajinkya Rahane would follow him with low scores. Who knows, the new Ajinkya Rahane could be the Test 2.0 batsman. Maybe, he can take it in the second inning too.” added.
