Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the second player after Joe Root to achieve this huge feat.

Team India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal created history during the second Test against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the first Indian player to complete 1,000 runs in Test cricket this year and overall the second player to do so.

Jaiswal made a promising start in the second Test against New Zealand but could not save India from a difficult situation. The left-handed batsman scored 30 runs off 60 balls with the help of four boundaries. He was dismissed by Glenn Phillips after falling straight into the hands of Daryl Mitchell in the slips.

Yashasvi Jaiswal joins Joe Root’s elite list

Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 1,007 runs in 10 Test matches at an average of 59.23, including two centuries and six fifties. His highest score was 214 against England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. He also became the youngest Indian batsman to complete 1,000 runs in a calendar year.

Joe Root leads the list with 1,305 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 59.31, including five centuries and four fifties. His highest score this year was 262 runs in the series opener against Pakistan in Multan.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has a chance to beat Sachin Tendulkar’s record

Jaiswal has a chance to set a new world record for most runs scored in a calendar year with five Test matches left this year. His aim will be to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 1,562 runs in 14 Tests in 2010. Virender Sehwag, who scored 1,462 runs in 2008, holds the record among openers.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored more than 700 runs against England

Earlier this year, Jaiswal scored over 700 runs against England in the five-match home Test series. However, its performance has been declining since then. The left-hander scored three fifties but was unable to convert those good starts into meaningful scores during the recent Test series against Bangladesh at home.

The 22-year-old batsman scored 13 runs and 35 runs in the first Test match against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He took his wicket with a rash shot in the second innings. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led team lost the first Test of the three-match series by eight wickets.
