The fifth day of the Melbourne Test between Australia and India was marred by a huge controversy later in the day when opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was controversially given out despite the Snicko showing nothing on him.
Yashasvi Jaiswal even argued with the umpire on the field after he was handed over but eventually had to return. Former India goalkeeper Surinder Khanna criticized the Indian team for questioning the referee’s decisions and trying to create controversy.
Khanna claimed that Jaiswal was clearly out as the pace of the ball slowed before Alex Carey took it behind the stumps.

“Juthe log hai yeh” – Surinder Khanna on Yashasvi Jaiswal controversy
Speaking to news agency IANS, Surinder Khanna lashed out at the Indian team for trying to create controversy. He claimed that there was enough evidence to rule out Yashasvi Jaiswal through different camera angles.
“There is no point in creating controversy. They have proven from four angles that the ball hit the gloves and its speed also decreased before Alex Carey caught it behind the stumps. Akash Deep also complained about something similar when he was caught going out,” he explained. Khanna.
Khanna even went to the extent of calling Rohit Sharma and his team “liars”. He called on the team to play fair and then think about winning, about winning the game.
“‘Juthe log hai yeh (they are liars),’ first you have to play clean cricket, only then you will start winning. When the bat is in your hand, how come you don’t know how to edge the ball?” he pointed out.
What was the controversy?
During the 71st over of India’s second innings on day 5, Pat Cummins bowled a short ball on the leg side which Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted to pull down the leg side. Goalkeeper Alex Carey caught the ball and the Australian team appealed.
The on-field umpire ruled and Pat Cummins called for a review. There was a clear deviation from the path as the ball passed the bat, but the Snicko showed no disturbance, which created all the confusion.
After several replays, the umpire dismissed Jaiswal, much to the consternation of the first batsman. Yashasvi Jaiswal was India’s last hope of getting a draw as he was India’s top scorer with 84 off 208 balls.
‘Come IPL…’ – Surinder Khanna slams Team India
Delving into India’s performance in Melbourne, Surinder Khanna lashed out at Team India for playing too aggressive cricket in Test cricket like the IPL and hopes for a change in the New Year.
“We have played badly and we have lost. What kind of batting are they doing? When the IPL comes, these players will make runs. Don’t play too aggressive T20 cricket and play positively. Let’s hope luck changes in the New Year (for the Indian team ),” Khanna added.
The Indian team has been severely criticized for their attacking style of cricket, which has also cost them some games. The batsmen have been looking to play with aggressive intentions, which has led to their wickets falling at crucial moments.
