India has made a surprising decision on the day of the deadline for the announcement of the Champions Trophy 2025 team with Yashavi Jaiswal retired from the initial squad named.
Jasprit Bumrah, who had a lower back injury, and the England series was lost has been discarded from the Champions Trophy team with the men’s selection committee by appointing Rana Harshit as a replacement for Bumrah.

While Rana Harshit replacing Bumrah was an expected change given the slow recovery of the premier pacer, the shocking decision was also replacing an opening batter with an additional turn option.
Varun and Jaiswal made their debut hate in the England series, but the latter was abandoned after the first game with Shreyas Iyer, who played just because Virat Kohli was injured, shone with a good blow. Jaiswal made his debut as an inaugural match with Shubman Gill down the order, which meant that there was no place for Iyer until Kohli was injured in the last time.
But with Iyer shining, Jaiswal immediately dropped the second hate with Gill returning to the top. Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube were appointed as non -sale reservations for the Champions Trophy 2025 team.
The former player and analyst at India, Aakash Chopra, suggested that dropping Jaiswal for the Champions Trophy to accommodate someone like Mohammed Siraj is something that India could consider.
“You may not require Yashavi Jaiswal. That is a possibility. You wanted to maintain a left-right-left-right combination in the batting order, ”Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
India, however, wanted an X factor wickt with discarded Bumrah, bringing Varun as the additional turn option before a backup starter like Jaiswal.
While Rana, who impressed in Odi’s debut with three wickts, also added, India could be exploring the possibility of having Varun and Kuldeep Yadav in the same XI to increase her Wickt taking options in the absence of Bumrah.
Jaiswal’s omission also means that Shubman Gill will now open with Rohit Sharma with Shreyas Iyer insured of a place in the average order. India also tested Axar Patel at number 5 during the England series to ensure that they have a left -handed option available to break the right -hand chain in Top 7.
Axar shone with scores of 52 (47) and 41* (43) from the position in the two games, giving the team the confidence to leave Jaiswal for the ICC tournament.
