Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could have won the exciting Super Over against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 26, but their young batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi faced strict punishment for his behavior during this IPL 2026 clash.
The Indian Premier League announced the actions against Raghuvanshi on Monday, April 27. The incident took place in the fifth over of the LSG vs KKR IPL 2026 match in Lucknow.
How Angkrish Raghuvanshi violates IPL rule during LSG-KKR clash
In reality, Angkrish Raghuvanshi gently pushed a Prince Yadav delivery towards mid-wicket and decided to take a single. However, his batting partner Cameron Green suddenly sent him back, forcing Raghuvanshi to turn around mid-wicket and run back to his crease.

As the youngster dived for a save, an LSG fielder threw the ball towards wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant in an attempt to chase him away, but the ball hit Raghuvanshi on his legs. This prompted Mohammed Shami and captain Pant to appeal, claiming that the KKR batsman had deliberately interfered with the delivery.
After reviewing the replay, the third referee found that Raghuvanshi had intentionally changed his running path and blocked the ball, which falls under the “obstructing the field” rule, leading to his ejection. The decision shocked the entire KKR camp and Raghuvanshi reacted angrily.
After arguing with the umpires, he hit the cushion hard with his bat. Even he also threw his helmet aggressively towards the dugout. On the other hand, KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was also seen having a heated argument with the match referees.

With this aggressive behavior, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has violated Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match.”
As a result, Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also been awarded a demerit point for damaging equipment and showing excessive aggression on the field.
The IPL confirmed in a press release: “Kolkata Knight Riders batsman and wicketkeeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated a demerit point for violating Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 38 against Lucknow Super Giants. ‘A tough decision’: Former Indian cricketers
Meanwhile, Raghuvanshi’s controversial dismissal for obstructing the field has sparked a massive debate among former cricketers. Rohan Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag felt this was against the “spirit of the game”.
Rohan Gavaskar said, quoted by Times of India: “I think he wasn’t out because when the ball came and the batsman dived, he wasn’t looking at the ball. He was looking to make that jump. If he was looking at the ball, then he wouldn’t have dived… it wasn’t intentional. So, I would think he wasn’t out.”
On the other hand, Virender Sehwag opined, “When you are winning… you can let it go… but since Lucknow was not winning… they appealed and as per the law, it is a right appeal. But… in the spirit of the game, they should not have done so… it was indeed a tough decision.”
