On Monday, April 27, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) released an update on New Zealand national cricket team captain Tom Latham’s injury ahead of the first match of the T20I series against the Bangladesh national cricket team.
NZC revealed that Tom Latham has been ruled out of the first match of the three-match T20I series between New Zealand and Bangladesh, which will be played at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Chattogram.
Tom Latham suffers toe injury
Latham suffered a toe injury while training on Sunday and suffered a laceration under the toenail, ruling him out of the first T20I. NZC have named Nick Kelly captain of the BlackCaps in Latham’s absence.
“BLACKCAPS captain Tom Latham has been ruled out of today’s first T20I against Bangladesh after being struck by the ball on the big toe of his right foot while batting in training yesterday,” NZC stated.
“Latham suffered a laceration under his toenail and his availability for the remainder of the series will be assessed on a game-by-game basis. Wellington Firebirds batsman Nick Kelly will captain in Latham’s place and become BLACKCAPS’ 13th T20I captain.”
