Mumbai Indians (MI) finally received some much-needed good news amid the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (TATA IPL 2026). After days of tension over his fitness, Rohit Sharma is now very close to returning to action.
Rohit Sharma was ruled out after suffering a right hamstring injury during Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in April. This injury forced the senior opener to miss MI’s three consecutive matches against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
Injury phase almost over for Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has been working hard with the medical team and support staff to be able to return to action at the earliest as Mumbai Indians aim to make a strong comeback in the ongoing IPL 2026. Now, things are looking positive for Rohit’s fitness.

As reported by India Today, Rohit has been training regularly, working out in the gym and participating in practice sessions without any discomfort. The report also suggests that the former Indian captain has not reported “any pain or discomfort during his rehabilitation” so far.
The physiotherapists are happy with Hitman’s progress and there are high chances that he will be available for selection for MI’s upcoming IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma is back in the nets and looks in good contact
After the MI team returned to Mumbai after a short break in Jamnagar, they resumed practice at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit also participated in a practice session and spent some time batting in the nets. He looked comfortable and played his shots well, hinting that he is ready to face SRH.
The former Mumbai Indians captain trained alongside Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, and has not shown any signs of discomfort, giving hope to the medical team.
The franchise also shared a video on social media showing moments of their training. MI captioned the post: “The boys are back in training after a short break, and so is MIdaily.”

Mumbai Indians’ struggles in IPL 2026
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians had to change their starting pair. Quinton de Kock made a century but failed to deliver consistent performances. Even Denmark’s Malewar had the chance, but only to be disappointed.

Before getting injured, Rohit had scored 137 runs in four matches for MI. The five-time champions are going through a very difficult time in the ongoing IPL 2026. They currently sit near the bottom of the points table, in ninth place with just two wins in seven matches.
MI’s net run rate is also very poor at -0.736. In their previous game, Mumbai Indians suffered a tough 103-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 23. Chasing the target, they were bowled out for just 104 runs. The team is struggling in every department and needs a quick turnaround if they want to have any chance of making the playoffs.
