Pat Cummins, who lost his mother a few months ago, starred Australia in what was one of the best matches of the 2023 Ashes. The Australian captain put in a sensational all-around effort and brought his team home just when it seemed they are out of the game.

Pat Cummins boldly put together a resounding spell with the ball in the second innings and took a four-wicket haul helping Australia pack England for just 273 runs in their second innings, setting himself a target of 280 runs to chase. The visitors started well but lost wickets at regular intervals.

Australia found themselves in deep trouble as they were left reeling at 227/3. It seemed that England would win. But Pat Cummins (44*) along with Nathan Lyon (16*) took over and won the game. The duo achieved a 50+ partnership and helped their team take a 1-0 lead.

Pat Cummins said it’s been a tough few months for his family, but he’s lucky his dad is witnessing the game.
Speaking to reporters, he stated: “It was really special, dad has been here all week and I feel lucky to have him here. It’s been a tough few months. My brother has been here all week too. Dad was here in 2019 with mom. Having him here was really special. “I missed the first 20 minutes, but he put on a show like he always does.”

Pat Cummins also spoke about his team’s lower order batting, saying that his bowlers also practice batting and put in a lot of work. He explained:
“It is something that we all practice. Nath (Lyon) also spends a lot of time with him when he is back home; he spends a lot of time on his hitting, even adjusting from the first innings, when we got a couple of hits and everyone came out with a clear plan.”
The second Test of Ashes 2023 is scheduled to take place at Lord’s in London. The game is scheduled for June 28.
