Pat Cummins hit four fours and two sixes in his 73-ball strike to take Australia over the line. Former England captain Nasser Hussain praised his efforts to play a match-winning shot under great pressure.
“To be able to hang in there when England played the way they did, Joe Root picked him up and he had to set up pitches to counter it, it was a mark of him as a cricketer and character. The criticism he faced for embracing defensive pitches, the ability to absorb all of that and then on the fifth night to come out with 72 runs needed and hit in such a clinical way was exceptional.” Hussain wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

His timing was spot on: Nasser Hussain on Pat Cummins
“His timing was perfect, and when England were on their knees, he pounced on Joe Root with that pair of sixes. When the men were positioned for the hook, and aimed at her ribs, she stepped out of the way. He was so cool and calm under immense pressure.” Hussain further wrote in his column.
Hussain concluded by standing by his opinion on Pat Cummins’ captaincy. He said the Australian skipper would have been questioned about his tactics had they lost the test match.
