Ashes 2023: “Was Limping Badly” – Michael Atherton Provides Worrying Update On Ben Stokes’ Injury

Former England cricketer Michael Atherton gave an update on current captain Ben Stokes’ injury in the third ongoing game of the Ashes 2023 at Headingley in Leeds. He said that when the all-rounder pulled into the parking lot he looked very tired and had a bad limp.

England captain Ben Stokes did not look fit in the ongoing Headingley Test against Australia. The all-rounder has been struggling with his knee injury for a while and that concerned him at the ongoing 2023 Ashes as well. Before the series, he was expected to be in shape, but that didn’t happen.

Ben Stokes bowled a 12+ bowling spell at Lord’s and has been seen limping ever since. In the ongoing third Test, the England captain looked utterly uncomfortable as he batted and also struggled to run. But despite the pain, he kept fighting for the team and helped them get closer to the Australian goal.

Michael Atherton, prior to Day 3, provided an update on Ben Stokes’ fitness, saying he is not 100% and has been struggling. He said that, but with the crowd cheering for the team it brings out the best in him. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said:

“When he walked into the parking lot last night, he looked very tired and he was limping badly. It is clear that he is not one hundred percent. But when you go out with 20,000 screaming fans, you get the adrenaline rush and you can cause injury in the back of your mind. That’s something Stokes does better than most, but I don’t expect we’ll see him bowling.”

Ashes 2023: “I I’d rather be on the England pitch,” says Michael Atherton

The third Test of Ashes 2023 hangs evenly prepared. Australia currently lead by 142 runs but have also lost 4 wickets. Travis Head along with Mitchell Marsh are currently in the crease.

Michael Atherton said he would rather be at the England camp than the Australian one as hosts only to need to break the partnership. He also highlighted the history of persecution at Headingley and explained:

“I think I would rather be out in the England countryside, alone. England need to break the Travis Head-Mitchell Marsh partnership quickly this morning, but with Mark Wood in the ranks, you think they could blow the tail off,” Atherton said ahead of Day 3.

“Recent history at Headingley suggests it’s a good place to chase, but this course is a bit drier and there are signs it’s starting to deteriorate a bit, as it should as a game progresses. He concluded.
