The hosts were pooled for just 325 runs but what was surprising was that they lost 6 wickets for just 46 runs and came under immense pressure. After England lost captain Ben Stokes on the second ball, it was Harry Brook’s responsibility to carry his team forward. But that didn’t happen as he too fell prey to the short ball while trying to receive Mitchell Starc’s delivery, but ended up getting caught.

Harry Brook scored a half-century, but tried to catch a short ball sailing away from Mitchell Starc. He crawled through the outside leg and had no control on the shot and ended up getting the thick inside edge and giving Pat Cummins a Dolly pattern in deep coverage.

When Harry Brook was back in the shack, trying to take the short ball, Geoffrey Boycott, who was in the stands, was utterly disappointed. He was seen with his palms on his disappointed face. Here is the video:

Ashes 2023: “I don’t think Harry Brook has shown anyone that he plays short ball very well,” says Harry Kevin Pietersen.
Following his firing, Kevin Pietersen felt that Harry Brook has shown everyone that he doesn’t play short ball very well. He explained:
“I think Australia absolutely nailed their plans. They were perfect this morning. I don’t think Harry Brook has shown anyone that he’s a very good short ball player, so unfortunately for him the next three Test matches won’t be fun.
“A 91-run lead for Australia. You would not have thought that walking onto this ground this morning, you would have thought that England had gotten back into this game,” he concluded.
