Rishabh Pant to face a 1-match ban

It is turning out to be a very tough comeback season for Capitals of Delhi Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who resumes the captaincy for the first time since the 2022 season. While Pant and company are suffering from poor form and lack of depth in the team, another major issue that is emerging at the moment is their tendency to keep a slow overestimation.

For the second consecutive time in IPL 2024the DC captain has been fined by the league authorities for the same reason and if it happens again in the future, Pant will face a 1-match ban.

The first time Rishabh Pant came under scrutiny was during DC’s first win of the season when they hosted the Chennai Super Kings at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vishakhapatnam.

Delhi could have won by 21 runs but their captain was fined INR 12 Lakhs as it was his first violation of the 2024 season as per the IPL code of conduct. However, instead of learning from his mistakes, the Capitals did the same thing again last night in the first innings against Kolkata Knight Riders.

As KKR bowled over the DC players early on, the stadium’s big screen showed the hosts arriving a few overs late. At that very moment, everyone knew that another fine could be on the cards for Rishabh Pant, who despite doing his best to help the players behind the stumps, saw his team concede the second-highest total of this season.

KKR’s total of 272 also becomes the third highest IPL total after 277 made by Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this season and 263 made by RCB in 2013.

Rishabh Pant was fined 24 lakhs, while other DC players received penalties worth 6 lakhs

For the second consecutive offense over the same issue, the IPL authorities have fined Rishabh Pant 24 lakhs and the sanctions are not limited to him alone. His teammates included the Impact player. Abhishek PorelThey have been charged a sum of 6 Lakhs or 25% of the match fees during their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders last night.

If this happens again, Rishabh Pant will be in big trouble as he risks being suspended for 1 match. Coach Ricky Ponting and director Sourav Ganguly will have to hold a team meeting after last night’s defeat, not only to ask the players to improve but also to address the excesses. That’s an added strain on DC, who now sit in ninth place in the points table.

DC faces MI next

It will be a clash between the bottom two teams on April 7 when Delhi Capitals visit the Wankhede Stadium to take on Mumbai Indians in their next league match. Both MI and DC will not play a match until this Sunday and this particular tie will be very interesting. While Delhi will have a chance to register their second win of the season, Mumbai, if they win with a better net run rate, can reach the eighth or ninth spot.
