Bhuvneshwar Kumar reveals Virat Kohli’s role in his dominance of IPL 2026

While the entire cricket fraternity praises Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his brilliant bowling spells against the Delhi Capitals (DC vs RCB), Kumar himself credits Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli for the success.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who earned the nickname ‘King of Swing’ among Indian cricket fans, is currently leading the IPL 2026 leading wicket-takers tally with 14 wickets in 8 matches at an economy rate of 7.61. In those 14 wickets, he added 3 from the Delhi Capitals match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar explains how Virat Kohli guides the team from the back

Virat Kohli is mainly known for his batting and has led RCB and Team India on multiple occasions in chasing tough targets. There have been endless discussions about the batting of Kohli, the former RCB and India captain, but very few know his influence within the dressing room.

After the DC vs RCB match in Delhi, Kumar offered a hint of Virat Kohli’s influence on the team. Kumar, who is an ace and an experienced bowler, also learns and gets motivated from the batting legend. The seamer highlights Virat’s great communication skills, which not only help the batsmen but also encourage the bowlers. With his experience in batting and matches, the Delhi-born has become a source of inspiration for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players.

It is very important how you communicate: Bhuvneshwar Kumar

“I think whatever you have achieved, it is very important how you communicate, how you speak. I think your batting experience, if you say anything, helps a lot,” Bhuvneshwar said in a video posted by IPL on X.

“If you have a person with so much experience, that helps the team’s contribution,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli has achieved a major milestone in his IPL career, completing 9,000 runs in the mega tournament. Kohli needed 11 runs to reach the milestone, and he did it with ease against the Delhi Capitals last night. On the last ball of the powerplay, Kohli took a single off DC captain and spinner Axar Patel to claim the record. They remained unbeaten for 23 off 15, and RCB won the match chasing a paltry total of 76 with ease.

The pacer emphasizes team play.

Kumar felt that cricket is about acting as a unit, a team game. The result of the match is important to him. If he personally performs well but the team somehow gets defeated in the match, then it won’t be a lovable moment for Kumar.

“We usually analyze performances based on the result, but I don’t see it that way because it is a team game,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said.

“Sometimes if you are playing well, regardless of the result or the wicket… It is very important to complement each other. If you are playing well and someone is taking a wicket at the other end, that is what matters,” he added.
