Disgraced Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has pointed out that Mohsin Khan, despite his performance, cannot be immediately backed for the Indian team due to the player’s huge concerns over his injury.
Team India selection could really be on the cards for some bowlers after their splendid season in the IPL. If form were one of the factors, Bhuvneshwar Kumar would be one of the favorites to be selected for the Indian team again; However, the possibility seems slim.
Rather, the likes of Anshul Kamboj, Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav have impressed with their bowling performances. Veterans Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have also produced some impressive statistics with the ball.
‘Fitness is a big concern for him’ – Umesh Yadav reflects on Mohsin Khan’s chances of earning a spot in the Indian team
Mohsin Khan’s form in the shortest format of the game has been impressive. Despite his splendid form, he has only played a few matches in the ongoing IPL 2026, where he has been ruled out due to injury in most of the Lucknow Super Giants’ matches.
Disgraced Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has revealed that although Mohsin is a very talented cricketer and a good quality bowler, he is yet to be considered for selection in the Indian team due to his huge injury concerns.
“He is a talented bowler, but you can’t make immediate decisions about the national team based on just a couple of matches. Fitness is a big concern for him. He often plays a few matches and then gets injured, missing entire seasons. Selectors look for consistency – how much cricket you have played and how your body behaves,” Umesh Yadav said in an interview with RevSportz.
“To be considered for higher levels, you need to play full domestic seasons (Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali) and perform consistently. Only then can you advance to India A and eventually the national team,” the Indian star added.
Mohsin Khan’s promising form in IPL 2026
Mohsin Khan, the 28-year-old young pacer, was first picked by the Lucknow Super Giants and has been a part of the franchise since their debut season in 2022. However, despite being a part of all these seasons, he has only played 28 matches for the franchise.
He played his first full season in 2022, where he played 9 matches and picked 14 wickets at an astonishing average of 14.07 and an economy of less than 6. His next long season came in 2024, when he picked 10 wickets in 10 matches for the Super Giants.
Upon his return to the team in 2026, after missing a full season due to injury in 2025, Mohsin Khan played only 4 matches and picked 9 wickets, including a five in the last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He has been on a roll this season, averaging 11.33 with an economy of 6.38.
Umesh Yadav’s latest take on the possible selection of his former teammate Mohammed Shami
When asked if Umesh Yadav’s former Indian teammate Mohammed Shami should be given a chance to break into the Indian team again, Umesh expressed high praise for the LSG pacer.
“Shami is currently playing at around 140 km/h and has a good swing. If he continues to perform at that level, he definitely deserves a chance. When a player proves his worth through his performance, especially after consistent efforts, he should be considered for selection,” Yadav said.
He pointed out that national players, be it Mohammed Shami or Bhuvneshwar Kumar, if they perform well and consistently in the national games, then they should be given a fair chance to return to the team.
“You cannot suddenly discard a player and say his time is up. Selection should be based on performance and fitness. If a bowler plays an entire Ranji Trophy season, performs consistently and takes wickets, then he has earned the right to be considered. Whatever opportunities come his way, he should be given a fair chance,” he added.
