According to reports by Indian Express, the renovation of the Delhi Stadium will be worth Rs 20-25 crore for the five matches it will host during the ODI World Cup in October-November.

The venue faced severe criticism due to its unsanitary toilets on the stadium premises. Delhi was chosen as one of the five venues selected for a major redevelopment ahead of the World Cup.

Rajan Manchanda, assistant secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, said his focus would be on making the fan experience enjoyable during the World Cup.

Arun Jaitley Stadium will host five World Cup matches

“We thank the BCCI for awarding us five games. We need to improve the infrastructure of the stadium to make it a pleasant experience for the fans and we will be focused on that before the mega event.”

“We have planned a substantial upgrade to the facility that will include changing spectator seats, renovated restrooms, paint jobs and changes to our ticketing software.” Manchanda told PTI.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium hosts 35000 spectators and Manchanda informed that DDCA will replace around 10,000 seats in addition to changing the 15 year old turnstiles to enter the venue.

“We need to provide clean toilets and reasonably priced food and sanitary water for our fans. The strength of the cleaning staff will also be increased. We plan to complete all the work by September 15.” Manchanda added.

The DDCA secretary also informed that the BCCI and ICC teams will conduct a reconnaissance of the venue, which will also include the pitch and gardens, in the third week of July.

Delhi will host five World Cup games including the India vs Afghanistan game on October 11.
