Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming made a massive claim about Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel ahead of the semi-final between India and England in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said the management must utilize them and ensure that the problems There is no ego among them.
India has been fortunate that in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 the decision to play Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel has worked out. This is the first time in many years that the team is operating two left-arm spin bowling all-rounders in its T20I XI and that too in a big tournament.
Over the years, Ravindra Jadeja has been given the nod as the team’s most versatile player and Axar Patel was seen as their backup option. But in the ongoing T20 World 2024, the latter has been better than Jadeja with both bat and ball and the management even trusts him more.
Ravindra Jadeja has been scrutinized for his performances and is even considered the weakest link in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 for the Indian team. The all-rounder has failed to take wickets and has not even been at his best with the bat, failing to finish the innings on a high.
Stephen Fleming, talking about Ravindra Jadeja, stated that the all-rounder appears in his team’s important matches. While he termed the CSK player as effective, he backed him to perform well in the next stage of the tournament. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained:
“In some tournaments he doesn’t really turn up for a while and then all of a sudden he gets 4/16, 4/20 and scores runs with the bat and that’s why he’s such an effective player in your side.”
You just have to make sure that from an ego point of view, someone who has the same skills doesn’t have an impact on either of them – Stephen Fleming over Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja.
Stephen Fleming further admitted that Axar Patel has performed well for India and if the team management combines them well, everything will be fine. Furthermore, he stressed that Ravindra Jadeja cannot be ruled out, as the team must be patient with him.
“India also has Axar working. You can combine the two and get a pretty good result. You just have to make sure that, in terms of an ego point of view, during those in-between moments, having someone with the same skills has no impact on either of them.
“You have to make sure your man management is pretty solid. But you can’t rule Jadeja out. When the conditions are right, the pace at which he plays is perfect, he will cause problems. Sometimes you just have to wait a little longer and wait.” to your players, Jadeja, towards the end of the tournament.
