Devdutt Padikkal then played a knock of 40 runs as he was the team’s leading run-getter in the match as the collapse of 18/4 in the middle overs sent RCB on the back foot. Some finishing touches from Bhuvi and Venkatesh Iyer helped the defending champions surpass the 150-run mark when they were bowled out for 155. Jason Holder picked up two wickets in the match.

Rahul Tewatia seals the game for GT

While chasing, Sai Sudharsan failed to trouble the bowlers, returning for 6 runs, although Shubman Gill got off to a cheerful start as he played a ferocious knock of 43 off 18 balls, and then Jos Buttler, scoring 39 off 19 balls, helped GT maintain the current run rate up to the required one.

After winning the POTM, Jason Holder said: “Personally, things were happy for me. I felt our energy was good from the beginning. After the first couple of overs, everyone was a little nervous, but you have to give credit to KG (for turning things around).”

Jason Holder on Rajat Patidar’s catch: “I saw him (Rabada), I was just hoping I didn’t run into him. He was on my periphery, but he was far enough away for me to try (catch him).
