"Happy to contribute": Jason Holder, delighted after match-winning spectacle, takes POTM in GT vs RCB

In the 42nd match, it was a low-scoring thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, where Gujarat Titans (GT) took on reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Titans came home by four wickets with 25 balls to spare as they chased a target of 156 runs.

GT took revenge against RCB, who defeated them in the last match. Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to play first. The two teams arrived with an unchanged eleven. Fans came out in large numbers to support their favorite team that night and enjoyed every moment of the game.

Devdutt Padikkal fights for RCB

After being put in to bat first, RCB opener Jacob Bethell returned to the pavilion with a low score of 5 runs. Virat Kohli looked in good touch from the first ball, as he hit five fours in Kagiso Rabada’s first over; However, the South Africa pacer had his man while bowling in his second over as Kohli returned after scoring 28 for 13.

Devdutt Padikkal then played a knock of 40 runs as he was the team’s leading run-getter in the match as the collapse of 18/4 in the middle overs sent RCB on the back foot. Some finishing touches from Bhuvi and Venkatesh Iyer helped the defending champions surpass the 150-run mark when they were bowled out for 155. Jason Holder picked up two wickets in the match.

Rahul Tewatia seals the game for GT

While chasing, Sai Sudharsan failed to trouble the bowlers, returning for 6 runs, although Shubman Gill got off to a cheerful start as he played a ferocious knock of 43 off 18 balls, and then Jos Buttler, scoring 39 off 19 balls, helped GT maintain the current run rate up to the required one.

Although there were wickets at regular intervals and the match was tilting in favor of RCB, a fine 27 off 17 balls from Rahul Tewatia sealed the game for the Titans as they chased down the target with 25 balls to spare. The southpaw was undefeated towards the end.

Happy things how it went for me personally- Jason Holder

Jason Holder was awarded the player of the match for his excellent overall performance in the game, where he picked two wickets and took three catches in the match, and also contributed 12 runs towards the business end, helping to earn two points for his team.

After winning the POTM, Jason Holder said: “Personally, things were happy for me. I felt our energy was good from the beginning. After the first couple of overs, everyone was a little nervous, but you have to give credit to KG (for turning things around).”

Jason Holder on Rajat Patidar’s catch: “I saw him (Rabada), I was just hoping I didn’t run into him. He was on my periphery, but he was far enough away for me to try (catch him). (When the ball follows him) I welcome him as he comes. I’m happy to take opportunities. Happy to contribute and cross the line.”

“The way this franchise is approaching, you have to stay alert. More or less about coming in when you have to and delivering.”
