"Restrict a team like them…": Shubman Gill praises Gujarat Titans bowlers after win over RCB in IPL 2026 clash

Shubman Gill played a dominant hand with the bat and gave the Gujarat Titans the initial momentum in their batting innings as the captain seemed to be on a mission while chasing a comparatively smaller total.

The Gujarat Titans have been led by Shubman Gill since 2024 after Hardik Pandya left the team to return to his former franchise, the Mumbai Indians. The batsman did not have a good season as the two-time finalists since his debut, the Gujarat Titans, missed out on a playoff spot under Gill’s captaincy in 2024.

However, they bounced back in 2025 and advanced to the Playoffs before being granted exit by former captain Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians. This season too, Gill is looking to solidify his place in the Indian T20I XI with a series of impressive outings in the IPL.

Shubman Gill backed his bowlers to respond against the RCB batsmen in the powerplay.

The Gujarat Titans bowlers have not had the most productive start to their innings; However, ever since Kagiso Rabada took shape, there have been wickets in the powerplay.

Mohammed Siraj received his third spot due to his economical start on the power play; However, Gill made a bold move to back Rabada for a second from the same end against Virat Kohli in the powerplay. The veteran pacer did not disappoint on this occasion, felling Kohli with a stunning collision.

He then backed up Arshad Khan with repeat overs from one end, who was the biggest wicket-taker for Gujarat Titans after being backed by spectacular fielding, from the likes of Jason Holder and Sai Sudharsan.

Rajat Patidar to Jos Buttler, everyone praises Shubman Gill for his winning knock

From opposition captain Rajat Patidar to his batting partner Jos Buttler, everyone in that camp has praised Shubman Gill for his impeccable start to GT’s innings on such a tricky surface against two of the deadliest bowlers in the powerplay in this edition of the IPL.

Shubman blew GT away as he aimed to bowl down RCB’s bowlers from the first over of the game, as he opened his pace against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in some style after getting lucky on the first ball.

Gill did not stop there and took 24 runs off Josh Hazlewood’s first of the game, surpassing even Virat Kohli’s 21-run second against Kagiso Rabada. The momentum did not die even after his dismissal as Jos Buttler continued to add runs from the other end.

Today the energy was quite high – Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill credited his GT boys for their stupendous efforts on the field. He said: “It feels very satisfying. On one wicket, restricting a team like them to 155 is very good. At times we haven’t played that well, but today the energy was quite high after the second over.”

“I felt like I was in the zone. On the first ball, I got a bit lucky, and then I thought today was my day. I was confident bowling,” Gill said of his own batting.

“He is a very important player for us. That was one of the conversations we had in the time-out. He made some nice runs and everyone got a hit in the middle,” he praised Rahul Tewatiya, highlighting his importance in that GT XI.
