Mumbai Indians (MI) have found themselves in deep trouble in the ongoing IPL 2026, and now one of their biggest strengths, Jasprit Bumrah, is becoming their weakness. In the midst of his wicketless campaign, Wasim Jaffer has made a bold statement about Jasprit Bumrah.
In their last match of IPL 2026 against Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians had a total of 196 to defend at the Wankhede Stadium. But things went completely wrong with the ball. PBKS chased down the target with 21 balls to spare, beating MI by seven wickets on April 16.

Bumrah also had a tough outing, giving away 41 runs in his four overs without taking a single wicket against PBKS. The most disappointing fact for MI is that Bumrah is yet to take a single wicket this season even after playing five matches.

Surprisingly, the fast bowler is losing runs at an economy rate of 8.63. Reacting to the Mumbai Indians star bowler’s struggle, former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer has boldly claimed that Bumrah is not 100% fit and that something is missing in his overall bowling in the ongoing IPL 2026.

Jaffer has also pointed out that Bumrah’s body language is not the same as before. The cricket pandit has pointed out that earlier Bumrah used to look smart, confident and always in control, but now he lacks energy and pace in his bowling and also lacks his usual length, which is surprising to see in a bowler of his caliber.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel: “I feel like Jasprit Bumrah is not 100% fit, to be honest. This is my perception and my belief. When we watch Bumrah bowl, the body language we see is not the same as what we saw in the World Cup or even before that. So sometimes I feel like he is not at his best.
Because Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t usually miss like that and he doesn’t usually take hits like that. If he was 100% fit, I can’t see Jasprit Bumrah bowling like that and continuing like that. So, I feel like somewhere he is not 100% fit.”

‘Just a bad patch’: Wasim Jaffer backs Jasprit Bumrah amid tough phase
However, Jaffer defended Bumrah saying that even the best players can have off days or difficult phases, and he is simply going through a difficult phase where things just aren’t going his way.
Jaffer added: “It feels like that enthusiasm is missing in Bumrah’s bowling. It seems like that ball, which used to come in quickly and hit the bat hard, is now missing a bit. The form is not always the same, and it’s not like Bumrah bowls brilliantly every time or has a great spell in every match. Right now, it feels like he’s going through a phase where things aren’t quite working out.”
Now, all eyes will be on April 20, when Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Titans in their next IPL 2026 match in Ahmedabad, and will hope that Bumrah returns to his best soon as they really need him to perform to turn their season around.
