Aakash Chopra on WTC Final

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on the Indian team ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final. The final will be played at the Oval from June 7 to 11. After the final, one of the two teams will be crowned the new World Test Champion.

Aakash Chopra analyzed the Indian squad facing the end of the world trade center. He weighed the batting unit and bowling unit differently and felt that Indian bowling is better suited to the conditions than his batting.

Speaking to Star Sports, Chopra said he is a bit worried about India’s batting line-up adding that the bowling line-up could win them the Test match. India beat Australia 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy securing their qualification for the final.

Mild hitting concerns: Aakash Chopra

“When I see this team, I see the quality in the bowling. India’s problem will only be their batting. I feel this is a bowling attack that can cause problems for Australia batsmen in England. I’m a little worried about hitting. Australia started the stronger team to begin with, but I have tremendous faith in the quality of the Indian bowling and they could upset the apple cart.” Chopra said.

The former Indian cricketer further said that only Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujar are among the batsmen who can cope with the Australian attack while the others do not instill confidence based on their recent form. Interestingly, Rohit struggled with the bat throughout the IPL season, while Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill scored plenty of runs and looked fit.

Question mark over other hitters based on their form: Aakash Chopra

“If you look at the top six and their current form and imagine they are playing in England, who gives you confidence – Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara is once again a reliable player. Except for these two, there is a slight question mark over the others based on their shape. Chopra added.

Chopra concluded by saying that the Indian bowlers’ attack can bring them back to the Test match, even if they start on their back foot with the bat.

Bowling can bring India back into the game: Aakash Chopra

“Bowling can probably bring India back into the game. You said there is a Test match so there is less chance of a comeback but Test match cricket is such that if you don’t play well in the first two days and improve your game later, a comeback can happen.” Chopra said.

Australia qualified for the WTC final with 152 points from 19 games as table leaders, while India finished second with 127 points from 18 matches.
