Quinton de Kock produced a stupendous innings on his return for the Mumbai Indians as he scored his third IPL century after his return to the former franchise. He has once again set fire to the Wankhede, a scene that was so common to witness during his previous stint in the franchise.
Mumbai Indians had to leave out their most experienced batsman Rohit Sharma as he battled with a hamstring injury, which helped Quinton de Kock get into the MI playing XI. He opened the innings alongside Ryan Rickelton.
Quinton de Kock receives standing ovation for century on comeback
The South African veteran struggled with poor form in the previous two seasons of the IPL and hence was overlooked by the top teams in this mini-auction, but his former franchise Mumbai Indians noticed his international comeback for the Proteas.
QDK also continued his stellar form in T20 franchise cricket in the SA20, as he played some good knocks against India in bilaterals and also scored runs in the ICC T20 World Cup.
He returned for the Mumbai Indians and started his innings with an impressive six over the extra cover boundary. This seemed to be a first glimpse of what’s in store for the Mumbai Indians. He played a good knock, not giving a single chance to the PBKS bowlers and scored his third century in the IPL.
He was unbeaten and top-scored for Mumbai Indians with 112 runs and helped the MI team with a score of 195 runs at the end of their 20 overs.
Homecoming special for MI star: QDK’s IPL stats for Mumbai Indians
The South African veteran has not only scored several runs in this match for Mumbai Indians. It’s just one of those special homecomings for the former MI star who also played for the franchise on previous occasions.
Having represented the Mumbai Indians between 2019 and 2021, he amassed 1,329 runs in three seasons for the Mumbai team. After having played three seasons, in his first two seasons he had more than 1,000 runs and won two titles with the franchise.
This innings marked his first hundred for Mumbai Indians, as his previous hundred came for Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants in the previous IPL seasons. This marked the third century of his IPL career and heralded his return to top form.
