Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh spoke about the Indian cricket team’s spin bowling options once Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja finished their careers. He said that BCCI you need to push spinners to play the Ranji Trophy so they learn the art of casting longer spells.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been leading the charge for Indian Test bowling for the past decade. The duo singlehandedly have won many games for the team and it is fair to say that they are the backbone of the Indian Cricket Team in the longer format of the game.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are one of the main reasons why the Indian team is a dominant force in the longer format of the game. The duo share over 700 Test wickets and have shaken up the opposition batting order in a short period of time.

But it’s fair to say that both are in the final stages of their careers and the biggest question currently being asked is who will take over after they retire. No name has emerged and it will be the biggest challenge for BCCI and the management of the team going forward.

Harbhajan Singh said that he wants to see more of Axar Patel as he is a player in the future. He also pointed out how the team management after showing trust in Kuldeep Yadav left him aside.
“I think it has something to do with domestic cricket. You talk about Jayant, whatever little Test cricket he has played, he has bowled well and is very good with the bat and you have to show faith in them. I want to see Axar Patel more and more as he is the one going forward. He is going to replace Jadeja. But Axar is not too young compared to Jadeja either”. Speaking with PTI, he said.
Kuldeep was another spinner, when he took those five wickets in Australia we heard he’ll be the guy to play overseas (at SENA) for India but, after that, he never played overseas. I don’t know what happened after that. Maybe he took five wickets and paid the price for taking those wickets”, added.

Harbhajan Singh further stressed that the management should show confidence in the spinners and encourage them to play for the Ranji Trophy.
“I’m not saying we don’t have spinners, but somehow we have to make them want to play Test cricket. Like Yuzvendra Chahal, who is a top spinner and plays in T20 formats, but I am surprised that he does not appear in the Asian Cup or the World Cup.
“You have to make those spinners believe that you are good enough to play Test cricket. You have to push them to play the Ranji Trophy so they learn the art of bowling for longer spells.” He concluded.
Currently, Ravichandran Ashwin along with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are the three players in the team. Kuldeep Yadav has done exceptionally well in the limited opportunities, but he has been unlucky as he has not had enough chances.
