Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra named the team that he believes achieved success. Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2024. The cricketer-turned-commentator believes five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) had a great day and picked the best players.
The IPL 2024 auction has come to an end and all the teams had a great outing in the event. At the Coca-Cola Stadium in Dubai, some records were broken and a lot of money was spent.
In what was a busy day for the entire cricket fraternity, Mumbai Indians quietly chipped in and got the balance they needed for IPL 2024. They opened their account when they picked Gerald Coetzee in what was a stunning pick.
The Ambani-owned franchise acquired the services of Gerald Coetzee for Rs 5 crore. It was a big steal for them because the rest of the team was busy picking up big names like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. They quietly contributed and bagged the Proteas bowler hat without even spending a huge amount of money.
After that, Mumbai Indians brought in the Sri Lankan bowling duo of Dilshan Madushanka for INR 5 crore and Nuwan Untilhara for INR INR 4.8 crore. Going into the auction, they had concerns in the effects department and ended up amazingly well. They brought Shreyas Gopal for INR 20 lakhs along with Mohammad Nabi for INR 1.5 crores.
The five-time champions also brought in young Indian players like Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj and Shivalik Sharma. In total, they spent INR 16.70 crore and brought up to 8 players to complete their team.
Aakash Chopra highlighted how Mumbai Indians had a great performance in the IPL 2024 auction. He said that new captain Hardik Pandya will have the best team in his first stint as the team leader. On his Twitter account, he explained:
“MI has achieved the auction. I was lucky with Coetzee that no one got very high. He had the money to buy more fast bowling options, courtesy of that steal deal. Hardik cannot be given a better team to bring glory to his new franchise.”
