Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) looked like one of the more settled teams despite the release of some big names ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. They had their first XI well-formed well before the auction.
As always, RCB stockpiled their batting resources but released their boilers. Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga and Josh Hazlewood, the franchise’s three best players, were released ahead of the auction. Also cast are the likes of Fin Allen, Kedar Jadhav, David Willey and Wayne Parnell.
Mohammed Siraj was the only international Indian pacer from the team retained. Reece Topley missed last season with an early injury. The franchise will once again be looking to reorganize its bowling attack. They need Indian and foreign bowlers, both Indian and foreign.
Their batting lineup looks in order with Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli opening the batting. Rajat Patidat can come in at three followed by Glenn Maxwell at four, Suyash Prabhudessai at five and Dinesh Karthik at six. They are missing an all-round specialist and good bowling depth. The franchise traded Mayank Dagar from SRH in exchange for Shahbaz Ahamad.

The franchise always had the potential to win the title. However, despite reaching the playoffs on numerous occasions, RCB is yet to win an IPL title. Over the years, there have also been changes to the coaching staff and support staff.
Andy Flower will be the team’s head coach. Mo Bobat will be the director of cricket, Adam Griffith the bowling coach and Malolan Rangarajan the fielding coach. Shankar Basu, the strength and conditioning coach, and Freddie Wilde, the team analyst.
With Faf du Plessis turning almost 40 when the IPL ends next year, the management should also try to identify the next leader of the franchise. They should go to the auction with the intention of getting a player who can replace Faf in the leadership.
