Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who plays for RCB in the Indian Premier League, has opened up about the mini-auction issues. Karthik believes that foreign cricketers use mini-auction very wisely and earn a lot of money.

The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman claimed that foreign players stay away from the mega auction and only put their names in the mini auction to get big contracts. He also demanded a change in the rules.

Amid criticism of Dinesh Karthikhe IPL 2024 The auction was an action-packed day for all the IPL franchises as 72 players out of 332 were sold and a lot of money was spent. The Australian players were the highlight of the show, with Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Spencer Johnson and Travis Head selling for exorbitant prices.

On one hand, Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in the IPL auction and was sold for INR 24.75 crore to Kolkata Knight Riders. Pat Cummins, who had broken this record earlier, was sold for INR 20.50 crore to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Dinesh Karthik’s explosive take on foreign players making big bucks in IPL mini auction

Speaking in a video for Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik highlighted an unhealthy practice that players and agents have been using to get more money from the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said players have been taking advantage of the loophole for a while.

“The third trend is unhealthy and I’m not a big fan of it. What I have noticed is that players and agents definitely use the mini-auction very cleverly, they bring them into the mini-auction and offer absurd and unheard of prices, knowing that the teams come with a lot of money. of money, they have some gaps to fill and their price level ends up skyrocketing,” he stated.

Dinesh Karthik further gave the example of Jasprit Bumrah, who earns comparatively less from his IPL contract despite being one of the best pacers in the world.

“I want to take an example, let’s take Jasprit Bumrah, he is worth INR 11.00 crore (INR 12), now some of the bowlers who have come to the mini auction have fetched huge prices. Last year’s Cameron Green, last year’s Sam Curran, this year it’s Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and it’s not their fault.

“They are just prioritizing their country, their cricket, looking after their bodies and they realize now I will come in but it is also a bit of a tactic, now in cricket there is a bit of tactics involved, how the agents are using this tactic “When they get to the main auction that happens every three years, they let it go and come to the mini auction that happens the following year and, because everything is available, they go for crazy prices. This harmful trend should stop.”

Dinesh Karthik also proposed two solutions that the BCCI could use to address this issue. He elaborated:

“The BCCI can, I have two solutions: A: Anyone who comes to the mini auction after being released from the main auction can only go to stamp the price for which he was bought in the mega auction. So that there is no bad blood between the players who have done well and been retained on that team, most of the players who have been released in the mini-auction have probably not had a great year and I don’t think they should be eligible. for the price they achieved in the main auction.”

“The second, in case a player was not part of the main auction and goes to the mini auction, I think it can only go up to the point of the highest paid player on that team.”

The IPL 2024 trading window has opened again after the December 20 auction and will close again 30 days before the start of the next edition, according to reports.
