India and CSK pacer Shardul Thakur is known for his ability to take wickets in the middle of the innings and at crucial stages of the innings. Thakur, also known by the name ‘Lord Thakur’, improved as a bowler playing with MS Dhoni in IPL.
While Shardul Thakur moved to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, Thakur has now returned to CSK in it IPL 2024 auction. Shardul will once again want to improve as a bowler in the next edition of the cash-rich league.
RP Singh opens up about CSK’s best buy in IPL 2024 auction
While the Chennai Super Kings were able to attract New Zealand stars Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, former Indian pacer RP Singh believes Shardul Thakur was the best buy for CSK in the IPL 2024 auction.
Singh stated that CSK was able to add Shardul Thakur at a very good price and it will also give the franchise a batting option further down the order. Thakur was signed by CSK for INR 4.00 crore and KKR released him before the auction.
Speaking at Jio Cinema, RP Singh said: “I feel for Shardul Thakur because he is an Indian fast bowler with variations and offers a great batting option. Keeping that in mind, Chennai Super Kings got him for a very good price. I feel Chennai Super Kings would have kept a little more money for Shardul.”
“Chennai’s options increased when they bought Shardul at that price. They were able to save money, so they were able to buy more players and were able to chase Rizvi for longer. In my opinion, Shardul Thakur was the best buy for Chennai.”
Chennai Super Kings have a pretty strong batting line-up, while in the bowling department they have the likes of Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana and now Shardul Thakur as well.
CSK will once again be led by MS Dhoni, who has been the captain of the franchise since the first edition of the tournament. MSD has led the team to win five IPL trophies and is also the most successful IPL team in terms of matches won.
The IPL giants will now want to become the most titled IPL team. Currently, CSK has five titles along with Mumbai Indians.
Apart from MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming has also contributed immensely to CSK’s success. Fleming has been the team’s coach for a long time and the team’s current support staff has played for the franchise before.
IPL 2024 will also be a platform for players vying to make a place in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Players like Rinku Singh, Sai Sudharsan and many more are included in the list of such players.
