IPL 2025 auction a ‘distraction’ for Australian players during Border-Gavaskar Trophy? Pat Cummins Answers

To manage his dual responsibility, Vettori has already flown to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the auction on November 24 and 25.

The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins on Friday, November 22, but there is additional excitement off the field as the mega auction of the Indian Premier League 2025 coincides with the third and fourth day of the match. This overlap has sparked discussions about how the auction events could affect players on both teams.

Scheduling has also posed challenges for those involved in both events, including Australia assistant coach Dan Vettori, who also serves as Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach.

To manage his dual responsibility, Vettori has already flown to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the November 24-25 auction. Despite his absence, Australia captain Pat Cummins assured that Vettori was involved in all the team’s preparations and will be kept informed during the auction. Proof.

“Dan has obviously flown there. But he has been here throughout the preparation, we have held many meetings, carried out all the talks and he will be watching and monitoring everything anyway,” he told reporters on the eve of the first test.

Pat Cummins assures that the auction will not affect the team’s mentality

Cummins himself is not part of the auction as Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him as their captain. However, most of his peers are in the auction group. Cummins stressed that the simultaneous auction is unlikely to distract the players, who remain focused on the Test match.

“For the players, I don’t think so. Most of the guys have been to the auction before and the reality is that nothing can be done. Just sit back and see if you get selected or not. “As far as I can see, it’s not a distraction,” he said.

The first test of the series will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
